Biographie
Anssi Paasi, né en 1955, est professeur émérite de Géographie politique à l'université d'Oulu en Finlande. Il a soutenu son doctorat en géographie à l'université de Joensuu en 1986, en se concentrant sur la théorie de l'institutionnalisation des régions et des identités spatiales. Il étudia ensuite l'interaction entre les frontières et les identités, examinant comment les frontières et la socialisation spatiale façonnent les discours sociaux, politiques, idéologiques et économiques et vice versa. Son travail interdisciplinaire a eu des répercussions sur la géographie et d'autres sciences sociales. Il est l’auteur de monographies et a publié de nombreux articles dans des revues et des collections éditées. Son livre « Territories, Boundaries and Consciousness » a été reconnu comme une contribution majeure aux études sur les frontières. Anssi Paasi a été le seul professeur de l'Académie et directeur du Centre d'excellence en géographie financé par l'Académie de Finlande. Il a reçu la prestigieuse médaille Vega en 2021.
